The Village of Muscoda, Grant & Iowa Counties, Wisconsin was first named Savannah and then English Prairie. The village was started around a smelting furnace used to process lead ore. Muscoda is a general Algonquian word meaning "prairie" or "meadow". Muscoda is the largest Village in Grant County.
